POP ART
A Beauty-full Fusion of Music and Color
Pop Beauty founder Sara Strand has never had a problem getting noticed. From her signature scarlet mane to her extraordinary talent in singing, Strand caught the ear of music executives at Sony at the young age of 11—after she left them singing messages into their answering machines. Her youthful spunk is still evident today, reflected in her exuberant line of colorful cosmetics. With a flair for the dramatic, this Swedish-born singer, makeup artist, and now cosmetic mogul found her passion for color while on stage and on tour as a pop singer in Europe. After co-founding Pixi cosmetics with her sisters, Strand decided to venture out on her own. The result: A makeup line that reflects her unique beauty and encourages women everywhere to find their inner rock goddess.

Strand grew up in a household of beauty, influenced by her sisters Petra, a makeup artist, and Sofia, an aesthetician. But her real love of color began on stage, while singing and performing on tour. "Color has always been a huge part of my life and it was always something I was really interested in," says Strand. "I had a record deal in Stockholm so I was onstage singing, performing, touring, and learning the importance of makeup."

Eventually, the three sisters started Pixi cosmetics in the late '90's, an easy-to-wear line of colors meant to give women that well-rested, healthy look. This venture, along with her desire to try something spunkier, inspired Strand to branch off on her own to start Pop Beauty. "Through my experience of being in the lab, as well as being a makeup artist and continuing in the music industry, I realized I wanted to do my own thing," she says. "I wanted to do something more dramatic and more vibrant, something a little more funky." Though Strand is now focused on developing Pop Beauty, she still remains close to her sisters and involved with Pixi.

The Pop girl is anyone, and according to Strand, age makes no difference. It's just a mindset. "Pop Beauty is really for anyone who is ready to play, or looking for something fresh and funky," she explains. "The Pop girl wants to try something new and slightly edgy." The word "pop," besides its musical connotations, is a term makeup artists use to describe makeup colors that make the face come alive. It's the ultimate finishing touch, says Strand.

From the vibrant Cheeky Pops to the color coordinated Eye Cakes, Pop's colors look bright, but the textures are actually very sheer. "Pop Beauty is really about bringing fun and color back into makeup," says Strand. "Pop is visual and fun and people are instantly drawn to it." Just like the brand's spunky creator.
