The first ingredient listed is marula oil but all professionals say to never put anything with oil on your hair before using a flat or curling iron. It fries the hair. So how safe/ damaging is this product really?

I have never heard of a professional saying that. There are actually many oils that are heat protectants. Do some actual research and you will find a ton of oils that will protect the hair from various things, not just heat. Different oils serve different purposes, and some serve multiple purposes.
