The citrus oils are prone to oxidation (when exposed to air i.e. oxygen) which can cause them to go rancid after a while. This can cause irritation to your skin. The ethylhexylglycerin isn’t a preservative exactly but it does help increase shelf life. The tea tree has oil anti-oxidant and anti-microbial properties as well to counteract the oxidation of the citrus oils. That being said, generally speaking, this product has a shelf life of 1-2 years (if opened). It could be potentially longer if unopened and stored in a cool, dark space. If you do decide to stock up, you can always check to see if a product is bad by uses your senses (smell, consistency, color, etc DO NOT INGEST). A small spot test on your skin can help too. I wouldn’t test on my face though. Hope that helps!
