Is this essentially the same thing as the Sephora solid brush cleaner but in liquid form?

No, the “Shampoo” is more of a cleanser for the brush that is disinfecting and will remove literally any product that is on the brushes. I usually just lather it up in the palm of my hand then work the shampoo through the brushes and eventually you will see the brush is very clean and gone of any pigments and products that were on it.

The Solid Brush cleanser has Argan Oils to condition the brushes but the Shampoo has other agents to condition the brushes as well and personally I think the shampoo treats the brushes better over time than the wear and tear that the solid pad will bring.
