I'm having mixed feelings there are lots of great reviews. But I just don't know what to think. Does it actually rip apart bristles? Is it with it to buy?

If you use it correctly, you’ll be fine. Just avoid submerging more than you need to and try not to get under the connector sleeve (the part that’s holding the brush bristles to the handle) because certain ingredients can dissolve or melt the glue. Like the reviewer saying she used boiling water before, she was surely melting the glue and weakening her brushes over time. I’m surprised they didn’t fall apart sooner. 
The reason you want to frequently clean brushes outside of the obvious hygienic reasons, is to prevent excessive buildup that goes into the ‘roots’ and under the metal connector sleeve. Once it’s under there, it takes more effort to clean and risks compromising the integrity of the bristles/brush and most notably the glue that’s securing the bristles/hair. With that said, these ingredients (chemicals) are very harsh. I’d personally use something else and it’s why I stopped using it.
