I am trying to use this for acne scars and a couple fine lines due to sun exposure. is it actually gonna help?

Yes it should help with time (90 days). Be sure to always wear sunscreen. The sun makes acne scars darker - and retinal makes the skin more sensitive. Also, this is a very strong version for a first time user. Consider using a retinol (with an o) to start with or you could have even more breakouts.
