Item Substitution – FAQs

What is Item Substitution?

Item Substitution allows you to select a replacement item in the event that your first-choice item is unavailable. To choose a substitute, go to your basket, select the option “substitute with” below your item and follow the prompts. If your first-choice item is unavailable, we will provide you with your selected substitute(s) if available.

Is Item Substitution available for all orders?

Item Substitution is only available for Same Day Delivery, Buy Online Pickup In Store and Buy Online Pickup Curbside orders.

How will I be notified if one of my original items was replaced with the substitute?

If your first-choice item is unavailable and you selected a substitute before checkout, this will be reflected in your order email notifications and your order details page. For Buy Online Pickup In Store & Buy Online Pickup Curbside orders, your order status and any replacements will be reflected when you are notified that your order is ready for pickup. For Same Day Delivery orders, your order status and any replacements will appear when you are notified that your order is on its way.

Can I change a substitution after I’ve placed my order?

Once a substitute is selected, you cannot change or remove it. If you need to cancel your order, please refer to the Buy Online Pickup In Store, Buy Online Pickup Curbside or Same Day Delivery FAQs.

Can I cancel a substitution after I’ve placed my order?

Once your order has been placed, you cannot cancel or swap your substituted item. If you need to cancel your order, please refer to the Buy Online Pickup In Store , Buy Online Pickup Curbside, or Same Day Delivery FAQs.

How will I be charged for a substituted item?

Your order total is based on first-choice items. Your payment method will be temporarily authorized to cover potential item substitutions. You will only be charged for the items you receive. For Buy Online Pickup Instore or Buy Online Pickup Curbside, the transaction will be finalized when you pick up your order. For Same Day Delivery, the transaction will be finalized when your item is on its way. Your final total will be displayed in your email receipt and Order History. The temporary authorization will be removed by your financial institution 3-5 days after you receive your items. Please contact your financial institution for questions related to temporary authorizations.

What if my substitute item is not available?

We will notify you while we process your order if both your first-choice and substitute item are unavailable. Be sure to check your email to see the items that are ready for pickup or delivery based on your fulfillment method. In this email, we will also notify you if any items were out of stock. You are welcome to get those items shipped instead or find another product that suits you when you go to the store.
